Scouting at the Museum of Transport

We offer a wide variety of scout programs that can be self-guided or taught by a Museum educator.  Badges can be earned at every level of scouting.  Additional information on scouting may be obtained by calling 314-965-6885, ext.5 during the school year.

Boy Scout Programs

Registration Information

  • Reservations required for scouts, adults and siblings.
  • Reservations will be closed the Monday before the scheduled Saturday class.
  • Full payment required at time of reservation.
  • Scout leaders, adults and siblings attending with scouts must make a reservation on the class registration page.
  • Scout leader admission is NOT complimentary.
  • Classes subject to cancellation if a minimum of 10 scouts is not met.  You will be contacted in the event of a cancellation.
  • Prices include class fee, museum admission and miniature train ride.  Check museum website for current train schedule.

  • Scouts should NOT be dropped off without an adult chaperone in attendance.
  • Adult chaperones should stay with scouts at all times.
    For scout groups, there should be AT LEAST one adult chaperone per five scouts.
  • Scouts should be aware of their adult chaperone in the event of illness or emergency.

Railroading Merit Badge
A museum staff member, who is Merit Badge Counselor Certified, will lead your scout through activities to earn the Railroading Merit Badge.

Brownie Girl Scout Troop Earn the “It’s Your Story – Tell It!” Inventors Badge
Become an inventor like Mary Anderson, inventor of the windshield wiper, and Martha Coston, inventor of the Coston Flare.  Girls will explore the process of becoming an inventor and earn their Inventor Badge.

Limited to 22 scouts per class
45–60 minute class
Siblings may not attend the class

Travel Case
Introduce girls to requirements for the “It’s Your Story – Tell It!” Making Games Badge.

Girls will engage in:

Using directional signs
Reading a map
Visiting a National Registry Site
Observing historical automobiles, steam engines, electric streetcars & other modes of transportation used for traveling (past and present)

Independent Activities

Scavenger Hunt
Brownie and Cub Scout Leaders can call 314-965-6885, ext. 5 to reserve the “Travel Case” or “Jr. Travel Case” for your group.  Scouts will have a blast using educational tools as they complete an outdoor scavenger hunt on the museum grounds.  They will make predictions, learn about transportation history, use math skills, read maps and follow directional instructions as they navigate around the park property.  Each scout will be given a Scavenger Hunt and pencil.  In the event of inclement weather the day of your scheduled visit, call 314-965-6885, ext. 5 to reschedule.  No refunds will be given.

Brownie Girl Scouts
Introduces girls to requirements for the “It’s Your Story – Tell It!” Making Games Badge.

Boy Scouts
Complete your Museum Visit requirement with the “Travel Case.”

This is an outdoor activity. Please keep this in mind when choosing the date for your visit.

Fees
$4.00 per scout (group admission), $5.00 per adult.

$15.00 for “Travel Case” rental (credit card must be given for payment and security deposit.  It will be charged $50.00 if the case is not returned or a minimum of $10.00 if items are broken or missing).

One case will cover 10 scouts, if more than 10 scouts, you will need to reserve 2 cases.

Full payment due at time of reservation.
Fee includes museum admission and miniature train rides during seasonal operation.  Please check Museum’s website for current miniature train schedule.

The Children’s Garden Club
The Children’s Garden Club is also a great scouting opportunity to help the community.  Plant a row of vegetables for the hungry!  Free, no reservations required.  Please check the museum’s home page for more information.

Bricks 4 Kidz Cub Scout STEM NOVA Swing workshop

Delve into the world of simple machines! Scouts will learn about different simple machines such as levers, pulleys, inclined planes and more. Then they will build their own motorized See Saw models to represent a simple machine. We will discuss the three types of levers and discover all the simple machines we use in our everyday lives.
Fulfills Swing requirements 1, 3, and 5
Each scout takes home a certificate of achievement.

$15 per scout

Girl Scouts

Juniors Journey, Get Moving! Energize, Investigate, and Innovate
We’ll learn about the various sources of energy and its transference. We’ll talk about wind, solar, renewable, and non-renewable energy, and build LEGO solar panels and motorized wind mills.

Limited to 20 Junior Girl Scouts per class
This is a 2 hour class
Cost is $20 per scout
NO siblings may attend the class

All of our boy and girl scouting classes can be scheduled privately through the Museum Education Department at 314-965-6885, ext 5.

Please note that leaving a message does not confirm a reservation.

Minimum of 10 scouts and a maximum of 22 scouts per class

The museum may not be able to schedule your first choice date
Make sure to allow enough travel time and schedule appropriately, groups arriving late will receive a shortened program
Exploration of the museum before or after your scheduled time is permitted during museum open hours
There is no charge for parking
Picnic areas are available on first come, first serve basis for lunch or snacks
